The March Edit

Natalie Gordon Dunton | Owner, Pro Makeup Artist

We are marching forward this month with one of the biggest announcements in #Ave42 history: we are officially opening a second location in the West End! While the downtown location will always have a special place in my heart, we wanted to spread the #Ave42 love across Richmond and open a location closer to all of my West End beauties. The new salon will be on Patterson and Libbie, and we can’t wait to cut the ribbon in May!

This month, we are celebrating the new season and the sunnier weather with a warm and peachy soft glam from our local Cali-style artist, as well as with a sun-kissed updo that has us day dreaming of summer days on the beach. We are also celebrating a Richmond fashion scene maven, Taylor Pitera. As our March Cover Girl, she served so many snatched looks at a branding photoshoot last month, styled by our one and only Bre’Ona Jones. We can’t wait to show you the final photos, as well as tell you all about what makes Taylor such a legend.

As wedding season creeps up on our doorstep and our books start filling up, we are so thankful for all of the stunning #Ave42brides we get to work with. There is nothing like making a bride feel as beautiful as she is on her big day, and for sharing such a special time with her and her closest friends. And while we love providing every single service we offer at the salon, bridal hair and makeup will always have a special place in #Ave42’s heart. It’s in our roots and we can’t wait to continue the tradition in the West End.

Our March Cover Girl is Richmond entrepreneur Taylor Pitera. Taylor flaunted gorgeous extensions that our talented Bre’Ona Jones installed and styled for a brand photoshoot, but Pitera knows a thing or two about being on the other side of the camera. A fashion merchandising graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University, Pitera created her own collection and brand—Tailor—a few years ago. That was before she began her second venture, WEAR RVA, a fashion show that benefits high-achieving high school girls with the entrepreneurial spirit.

Upon moving to Manhattan for a job on Fashion Avenue after graduation, Pitera realized she wanted to work for herself, not for others. She moved back to her hometown of Richmond to pursue her entrepreneurial aspirations and started Shop Tailor. To celebrate young girl bosses like herself, Pitera teamed up with Amber Kay, a local photographer, to start WEAR RVA, a fundraising fashion show. All WEAR RVA models are high school students, and all of the show’s profits go to the Network of Enterprising Women’s scholarship fund. The show empowers girls to feel confident in their own skin, as well as empowers young women to follow their dreams.

Pitera rocked a gorgeous smoky eye and nude lip combo, along with high volume and high impact extensions in a 60s-inspired style. Bre’Ona did an impeccable job both installing these mega-luxe wefts, as well as styling them to fully maximize volume, guided by celeb stylist and November Cover Girl, Melissa McNabb. We honestly can’t even pick which look is our favorite: the high pony, teased waves and center part, or the natural curls. But what we can say for sure is that Pitera slayed each and every one of these looks. Who knew she was a natural model, too?

Becky Tash

Our March Artist of the Month is also of the newest additions to the #Ave42 family: Becky Tash.

Becky comes to Richmond all the way from the sunny beaches of Irvine, California, and with her, she brings her signature West Coast style to Ave42. So what exactly does that entail? Flawless complexions (check out her soft bridal glam look below for a perfect example!), refined beach waves, and sophisticated updos. Becky is one of the top bridal makeup artists and hair stylists at Avenue 42, but she is also a La Prairie specialist at Saks Fifth Avenue Richmond. Besides an impressive career in makeup and hair, Becky also holds a Master Aesthetician/Esthetician certificate from Saddleback College. We are so excited to have her expertise and her artistry in downtown Richmond!

R + CO

There’s a secret to perfect, golden curls like those in our hairstyle of the month.

But don’t worry—we are spilling all of our curl-confidential info in this edit. Our product of the month is for all of the curly-headed babes looking for the most gorgeous, most defined ringlets: R+Co’s Rebounce Natural Texture and Curl Defining Crème. This new miracle formula provides heavy hydration with lightweight texture to define and refine curls on even their most frizziest of days. Packed with the best ingredients for curly, textured hair—like Jamaican Black Castor Seed Oil, shea, mango, and murumuru butters—this product tames and shapes curls, creating impressive control, shine, and movement. Don’t waste another moment without the curls of your dreams and try out R + Co’s entire texture-specific line.

Our Favorite Makeup Look of the Month

We are all about a trendy makeup look, but sometimes there’s nothing better than a classic style. This month, we are bringing you a gorgeous soft glam bridal look that will never go out of fashion. Becky Tash, licensed esthetician, bridal and event makeup artist at #Ave42, and La Prairie specialist, brought this soft and shimmery look to life for this bride-to-be. With a glowing complexion created by Nars Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation and Scott Barnes’ Chic Cheek Nº 1 Blush Palette, Becky created a natural, yet long-lasting look. A shimmery pink eye shadow brought the look to life, and we are obsessed with how Becky widened this beauty’s eyes with some subtle white eyeliner on the waterline.

Hairstyles To Watch This Month

We are totally obsessed with this sun-kissed, free-spirited updo that is so fitting for the new season. The perfect balance between formal and easy-going, this natural curly blonde look lifts our spirits just by looking at it. The floral metal appliqué adds an extra layer of bohemian charm, while romantic tendrils frame the face and this intricate low bun. Styled by Brandie, if you are channeling your inner Greek goddess this wedding season, you know where to go get a style worthy of Mount Olympus.

Thanks #ave42babes!
