The February Edit

Natalie Gordon Dunton | Owner, Pro Makeup Artist

It’s officially the month of love, and we couldn’t help but think about all of our #Ave42brides and beautiful clients while we were celebrating yesterday. We are so endlessly grateful for all of the warmth and the support we get from you at the salon. Love is what makes the world go round, and we like to think of the salon as a revolving door of that. Our clients inspire us to keep doing and loving what we do, and we hope our makeovers help them fall in love with themselves just a little more when they look in the mirror.

But the best kind of love is self-love, and that’s truly what we’re all about at Avenue 42. You don’t need a fancy occasion or an excuse to treat yourself to a little self-care day. You deserve to love what you see every time you look in the mirror, and we love helping women see the beauty that’s already within them. So now that Valentine’s Day is over and you’ve celebrated with everyone that brightens up your day, it’s time to show a little love to yourself.

In honor of one of our favorite holidays of the year, we want to share all of the things we love this month, from our favorite recent makeup wins and the trendiest cuts of the season to the newest stylist at Avenue 42, and of course, our cover girl. We honestly had a hard time narrowing it down to just one list, so we hope you’ll find inspiration in this edit for your next trip to #Ave42.

We could barely keep this one in, but our February Cover Girl is the one-and-only Ivy Lightsey. A model, actress, and makeup artist herself, Natalie had the pleasure to work with Ivy just a few weeks ago, when she gave this gorgeous girl the signature Avenue 42 bridal glow. Natalie took Ivy from a bare-faced beauty to glam goddess with a subtle blush, a rose lip, and the perfect eye makeup to highlight her baby blues. And even though we can’t tell you what this stunning makeover was for quite yet, we can’t wait to share what we’ve been cooking up at Avenue 42 with you soon!

Ivy is the true definition of a triple threat. She has walked for designers at New York Fashion Week and Richmond Fashion Week, as well as modeled for a Coach trunk show. She’s even been featured in a Netflix original film. And she’s an absolute dream in front of the camera—check out the rest of her stunning work on Instagram at @ivylightsey. Ivy is also a makeup artist herself, with over five years of experience under her belt. Meeting other beauty professionals and bonding over the industry is always one of the best parts of our job!

Even though Natalie knows every trick in the book, and her days consist of more business management than makeup, she still loves getting back behind the chair. After all, that’s what inspired her to start Avenue 42 in the first place! If you’re familiar with the beauty industry, you know that education is a lifelong pursuit. No matter how long you’ve been in the business, there’s always more to learn. We jump at the opportunity to refine our skills, and working with Ivy was the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Richard Thomas

Our Avenue 42 Artist of the Month is also the newest addition to the Avenue 42 family: Richard Thomas.

Richard is known for the impeccable color he creates on his clients, from the brightest, whitest platinum blondes to the richest, most dimensional chestnuts, he is truly a color magician behind the chair. We are so excited and proud to welcome him to our salon, and to introduce our Ave42 beauties to his expertise. Richard’s color work will truly change your lives. While Richard is the go-to for any and all of our coloring needs, he specializes in creating blonde bombshells and the perfect, lived-in color.

R + CO

This month, we are loving R + Co’s Zig Zag Root Teasing + Texture Spray.

Styling hair is so much easier on its second day after a fresh wash, but R + Co created a texture spray to make freshly washed hair easier to mold into your favorite styles. This amazing formula is perfect for teased and lived-in styles, like the 70s-inspired curtain bangs we’re obsessed with below! Lightly tinted, this spray creates grit, hold, and volume. And we love how seamlessly it blends with any hair color—it’s even perfect for our brunette and black-haired beauties! The genius formula, comprised of various resins and polymers, connects strands with an invisible, web-like bond for an all-day hold—it’s like lightning in a bottle ⚡️

Our Favorite Makeup Look of the Month

We are loving all things pink this month, and this fresh, glowy makeup look is at the top of our favorites list! We’re all about letting our gorgeous clients’ natural beauty shine through, and Brandie did an amazing job doing just that with this fresh-faced beauty! A subtle blush and a pink lip shine go a long way here, which gave this gorgeous girl that flushed look that’s perfect for a Valentine’s Day date! Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder and Urban Decay’s All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray finished this look off and made sure this client’s makeup lasted just as long as her night did.

Hairstyles To Watch This Month

We have all of the heart eyes over this 70s-inspired curtain fringe this month. Bangs are back this year, and cuts with a 70s or 90s spin are forecasted to have a resurgence in 2023. Master stylist and bridal hair expert Ericka Colleen was right on trend when she created these retro bangs. We love how healthy and silky this beauty’s hair is, and these gorgeous bangs create the perfect amount of volume around her face.

Thanks #ave42babes!

We’ll see you next month!
