Beauty on a Budget: Top 5 Hottest Drugstore Dupes

Updated: Jan 15, 2019

We’ve all been there — mindlessly browsing the aisles of Ulta, Sephora, or a department store cosmetics section, only to walk away either empty-pocketed, or left daydreaming about when we’ll ever find a product THAT satisfactory again. What’s a beauty on a budget to do?

Lucky for you, we’ve gathered up some of the hottest beauty products on the market today, and found their equally-fantastic drugstore dupes. There’s no need to break the bank in order to look your best! 2018 has brought us a ton of rockstar beauty products this year, drugstore dupes included!

Feeling the pressure to put your best face forward while pinching pennies can be a daunting task, so today’s blog post will help ease that stress. Read on to discover your new spending-savvy beauty bffs!

Dupe #1: Urban Decay Primer Potion

A cult favorite, the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer retails for $20. It’s Wet n’ Wild dupe? Just $4.99 at Walgreens.

Tried, tested, & true, this dupe delivers 12-hour wear, no oily lids or creasing, and payoff in the pigment department. Cream, powder, and sheen eyeshadows stayed perfectly intact while using this product.

Respectively, neither of these primers are ideal for glitter-based eyeshadow formulas — our #Ave42Artists recommend using a thicker base when working with chunky glitter.

Another pro: sanitation. While the Urban Decay formula certainly packs a punch, the doe-foot applicator is unsanitary for makeup artists, or those who tend to use the same tube of primer over an extended period of time (pro tip: we recommend ditching eye makeup after six-months, #Ave42Babes).

Its Wet n’ Wild cousin comes in a squeeze tube, making it a sanitary, cost-effective substitute.

Dupe #2: Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

One of the top breakout beauty hits of 2018 is Tarte’s highly pigmented Shape Tape Concealer. $27 gets you a full-coverage concealer, ideal for facial contouring or covering extremely dark circles.

This concealer will cover ALL your bad choices — Tarte’s website claims one is sold “every 12 seconds,” and for good reason — there’s no denying that this vegan, cruelty-free product is making us wonder how we ever lived without it. But…at $27…this beauty staple is definitely an investment.

For those of us who crave a full-coverage, dark-circle eliminating concealer without draining our savings account, our #Ave42Artists recommend giving the Makeup Revolution Full Coverage Conceal & Define Concealer a try.

At only $7, this product is less than a third of the cost of Tarte’s formula. You may have to layer this product twice to achieve the same look as Tarte, but trust us — your wallet will be singing the Hallelujah chorus.

Tip #3: Becca Cosmetics Champagne Pop Highlighter

Becca Cosmetics (sold online and at Ulta stores) is known for their long-lasting, natural-chic line of products.

Their infamous Champagne Pop highlighter has long been a fan favorite, frequently selling out both online and in Ulta retailers.

What if I told you the #Ave42Artists have stumbled upon an enchantingly similar drugstore dupe…?

Good news — the perfect dupe for this $38 can be found anywhere Elf Cosmetics is sold, for a mere $3 to boot. You’re not under a spell: Elf Cosmetics Baked eyeshadow in the shade “Enchanted” is a nearly identical drugstore dupe. Thank us later…or now.

We’ll be here.

Dupe #4: Fenty Foundation

Our girl Rihanna made some serious waves in the beauty community this year after dropping her new, ultra-inclusive makeup line, Fenty Beauty.

Beauty lovers everywhere were singing Rih’s praises for creating a line which catered to all.

Yes — ALL beautiful skin tones. At $34, her Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear foundation formula sits at a lower price point than other high end foundations, but we’ve scoped out a very similar drugstore dupe which also provides a diverse shade range, moisture-meets-matte formula, and the same longwearing benefits Rihanna’s formula provides.

Say hello to Maybelline’s Fit Me! Dewy and Smooth Foundation.

At a mere $6, this formula is a total steal, and let us tell you — she DELIVERS.

Our #Ave42Artists put this number to the test, and she held up for a full day’s work without caking or creasing. A win-win for beauty lovers everywhere!

Pro-tip: Use a dampened Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge to apply this foundation — pressing this formula in will help it stay in place all day long.

Dupe #5: Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick

The liquid lipstick trend has been on FIRE this year — it seems like matte liquid lips have been popping up on all the trendiest celebrities.

Liquid lipsticks last longer than traditional cream lipsticks as they really adhere and bond to the lips, rather than sit on the surface of the skin.

A cult favorite, the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick, has made an appearance on a host of beauty vlogs and Youtube channels.

Liquid lipsticks can have a tendency to dry out the lips, but this product provides a long-lasting formula WITHOUT sucking the moisture from your skin.

Retailing for $20, this liquid lip won’t break the bank, but a nearly-identical formula can be found in NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks for $6.39 at Target.

Our #Ave42Artists approve — this formula provides the same long-lasting, non-drying formula as it’s ABH cousin.

While it’s certainly important to #TREATYOSELF every now and then, there’s no reason to overspend on everyday products when the same delivery can be found for a fraction of the price.

To our #Ave42Babes beautifying on a budget — we hope these tips help save you a pretty penny!
