Makeup Artistry 101:  Your finished work can only be as good as your prep work.

Fight Dull Skin

Notice the layers of paint on the trim pictured below.  That paint is an oil based paint – the finest money can buy.  Behind that fancy paint are YEARS of other paints (this building is over 120 years old).  Think of your skin that way. (insert shriek)

The best makeup money can buy – like the paint below – can only do so much.

To achieve the best “finish,” we need to minimize the textural inconsistencies (cracks, lines, etc. – yes I just compared the human face to a 120+ year old wall… hey, we all have days when we feel like that, right?)

Whether you are a makeup artist looking for a secret weapon to have in your kit when you come across an “issue”, or you are a bride trying to prep your skin appropriately for the big day, these products are my go-to’s.

***Note: I have sensitive acne prone skin that can sometimes be dry so any products I endorse are safe for sensitive or otherwise cranky skin.

1.  Luzern Labs Hydra Enzyme Mask – Just started sleeping in this mask once a week and when I wake up my skin looks like it went on vacation.  It restores suppleness and removes dead skin.

2.  Bliss Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask – I’ve been using this for over a year and it’s great to keep in your kit for a quick fix.  In less than three minutes you can refresh the skin and prep it for makeup.  Prefect for brides or clients who didn’t get much sleep the night before.

3.  Elemis Pro Collagen Quartz Lift Mask – I use this on my neck, decollate, and tops of the hands.  It smoothes fine lines and hydrates thin skin.

4.  Bliss “That’s Incredi-peel” glycolic resurfacing pads – (Darker skin tones, test this product on the back of your hand before using in case you have pigmentation issues) This product is a game changer for minimizing pores and reducing the appearance of scars/dark spots, and it just honestly kicks ass. *You’ll need to start using this a couple weeks before your event but it will be worth it.

Okay, my loves!  Fight the good fight (dull skin!) and enjoy your best makeup face!

xoxo
